Sherwood Park Highland Gathering

The Sherwood Park Highland Gathering is a 100% volunteer-run event organized by the non-profit Strathcona Highland Society. The festival provides opportunities for key planning roles for volunteers throughout the winter and spring. You can join a diverse group of volunteers who love Celtic traditions and fill the need in our region for an annual highland gathering, to promote closer ties in the community through the use of Celtic music, dance, and traditions, foster and promote community, and create a family friendly event for all to enjoy.

Please note all roles require individuals who are 18+ are available for the entire event weekend including setup and take down (July 18-20th); police checks are also required.

Coordinators will play key roles in the event, develop new skills and network, and enjoy free tickets to the event, merchandise draws and lunch on event days.

Coordinator (volunteer) Positions Available:

Volunteer Coordinator (January-September – 150 hours in total)

  • Recruiting and scheduling event volunteers
  • Planning orientation and training events for volunteers
  • Directing and supporting volunteers for setup, take down and throughout the event
  • Provide a summary report about the volunteer program to the Board in September

Communications Coordinator (February-September – 120 hours in total)

  • Implementation of communications plan, including media, advertising, social media, press releases and signage
  • Provide communication support to the Board and volunteers, both before and during the event
  • Provide a summary report about the communications plan implementation to the Board in September

Marketing Coordinator (February-September – 100 hours in total)

  • Implementation of marketing plan, including website content creation, working with the event’s marketing company on search engine optimization, analytics & reporting, and development of print materials
  • Support communications, sponsorship and merchandising throughout the event
  • Provide a summary report about the marketing plan implementation to the Board in September

WE Seniors Programs Volunteer

Programs Volunteer

Are you looking to get involved in WESeniors Programs?

WESeniors Strathcona is looking for a dedicated volunteer to assist with the setup of our space for programs.

This is a long term, but impactful role, requiring a commitment of just 15 – 30 minutes before each program. Volunteers will play a key role in ensuring our space is set-up correctly and events run smoothly.

All volunteers will receive free access to the program they are helping out with!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program setup & takedown: assist with the setup and takedown of tables, chairs, and other equipment required for the coming program. This includes arranging furniture to accommodate program actitivites
  • Refreshments & Snacks: set up, stock and replenish refreshments, muffins and supplies throughout the duration of the program. Ensure all items are available and accessible to all participants. *This task is for volunteers who wish to stay on-site for the duration of the program.*
  • Program Support: work closely with WESeniors staff and fellow volunteers to ensure that the space is arranged in a way that supports the goals and flow of the program. Help with any additional tasks as needed to ensure a positive experience for all attendees.
  • Engagement & Collaboration: Be an active part of the team by communicating effectively with WESeniors staff and volunteers to create an optimal environment for program participants. Volunteer input and assistance with event set-up and tear-down will contribute to a welcoming and organized atmosphere.
  • Promote WESenior Mission: Support and represent the mission and values of WESeniors through positive involvement. Your work helps provide a safe, engaging, and enriching experience for older adults in Strathcona County.

Skills & Qualities We’re Looking For:

  • Ability to lift and move tables and chairs (light physical activity)
  • Friendly, team-oriented attitude
  • Willingness to help where needed and take direction from WESeniors staff
  • Previous volunteer or event experience not required

Time Commitment:

  • Volunteers are asked to arrive 15 – 30 minutes before each event for setup

Do you have accounting or bookkeeping experience? Are you looking to make a positive impact by volunteering for a local non-profit?

The Strathcona County Crime Watch Association is seeking a volunteer to fill the role of Treasurer on our Board of Directors.

This is an unpaid position, ideal for someone with financial management skills who are passionate about community involvement.

Do you love hockey? Do you love to volunteer? Now you can combine both and volunteer for the Sherwood Park Crusaders.

They are a non-profit Junior A Hockey team operating in the BCHL.

The Crusaders are currently looking for some help with the Front End (Ticket sales & scanners) as well as volunteers to help out with security during home games

Duties can include roles such as:

  • Communicating with fans
  • Assisting with questions
  • Selling tickets
  • Scanning tickets upon entry
  • Helping with merchandise and more!

Games are Fridays & Saturdays (7:00 p.m. puck drop) at Randy Rosen Arena

All volunteers get free entrance to games

This role is integral to the successful implementation and operation of various technological initiatives, including virtual reality experiences, digital art showcases, board communications, and other innovative projects aimed at enriching the cultural landscape of our community.
