Local volunteer, VICTORIA COLLINS, continues to selflessly give of her time, skills and energy to others – because it’s something she loves to do. She has been volunteering for 55 years! Fifteen years ago, Victoria was honored with the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award. This award recognizes volunteers who have made a significant and continual contribution to their community.
Victoria finds that helping others gives her great pleasure, gives her a sense of purpose, has kept her mentally stimulated, and allows her the chance to meet new people and help where needed (many, many opportunities over the years). A few of Victoria’s contributions include helping at playschool when her children were in school, hockey, Brownies and as a teacher’s aide. Most recently, Victoria continues her volunteering at Capital Care Strathcona, helps with the W2W Widows’ Group and volunteers at her church 3 or 4 times a week.
Victoria’s volunteering has now come full circle. She finds herself in need of assistance with lawn maintenance and snow removal. Other volunteers are now selflessly giving of their time, skills and energy to help her with these things. Being on the receiving end of volunteering is new to Victoria but so appreciated.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering,Victoria, and for your years of sharing yourself with others! You are such a role model for the rest of us. Hopefully, in some small way, being on the receiving end is repaying you for all you’ve provided so freely.
