“I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 8 years and have never seen such kindness.”

As we’re sure everyone knows, the weather has not been kind to us in Strathcona County over the past week, especially last weekend. The nearly foot of snow we got plus the wind-chill left us avoiding going outside much less wanting to shovel our walkways and driveways. All of this however was no match for the SPKAC Bantam AAA Flyers. These boys shoveled a total of 20 houses on one of the coldest days of the season, the majority of which weren’t even on their route.
One resident was actually thankful and surprised enough that they took the time to email one of the coaches..

“Hi Barry,
I live [in Sherwood Park] and a group of boys from the Sherwood Park Flyers Bantam AAA team shovelled my driveway and walkway earlier today.
At first, I didn’t know what was happening when vehicles pulled in front of my house and kids with shovels started pushing snow. I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 8years and have never seen such kindness. When I went outside to talk to the boys I was blown away by their politeness and willingness to shovel my driveway just the way I asked. I offered to give them some money and they politely declined.
Huge shout out to the coaching staff, parents and this group of boys. It is literally the coldest day we’ve had this winter and they were out there before practice shovelling for total strangers. This act of kindness warms my heart. I am so grateful to you all.
Thank you so much. You made my weekend!”

Volunteer Strathcona is beyond proud of this outcome. Not only are we 100% matched between volunteer snow removers and residents (the first time this has ever been done in SnowBuster history), but we’re helping create connections like these.
